Principal’s Message

Some questions have arisen regarding the proposed before school program for next year.  Parents who opt to use the new program may drop their children off at school between 7:30 and 8:00 am.  The cost program is $2.00 per day or $10.00 per week.  Basically this is the same price as the afternoon program.  Registration forms for EDP will be sent home soon.  These forms will include the information about the morning program.

Please remember that our current afternoon EDP will be closing for the summer on Monday June 16th.  So there will be no EDP on June 17th or June 18th.  All unpaid balances must be paid by June 16th.

On Monday and Tuesday, June 9th and 10th, Holy Name School’s pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and grade eight said good bye for the summer.  The pre-kindergarten and kindergarten class held their closing ceremonies on Monday June 9th.  The children were delightful and the programs were entertaining.  Thank you to Mrs. Ruell, Mrs. Chaput, Mrs. Maloney, and Mrs. Judd who worked so diligently to present two wonderful programs.  I am looking forward to seeing just how much these little ones will have grown by summer’s end.

On Monday evening the eighth graders celebrated with their parents and teachers at the social center with an end of year banquet.  The food was delicious.  Thank you to all of the participants, especially Mrs. Curran, the eighth grade homeroom teacher/organizer.  A special bouquet of flowers was presented to our retiring fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Ford.  The dinner ended with a terrific slideshow presentation by Mrs. Laporte, followed by a dance. A good time was had by all.

And, of course, on Tuesday June 10th, our eighth grade class was officially graduated.  The ceremony was beautiful.  Father Connors presided over a Mass which was concelebrated by Father Goni.  The graduation ceremony followed the Mass.  Thanks again to Ms. Curran who prepared the students, held meetings to determine the award winners, and printed the awards.  This year the eighth grade valedictorian (highest academic average) is Sara Price and the salutatorian (second highest academic average) is Trinh Pham.  Congratulations to these two fine young ladies and to all of the graduates.  Congratulations to all.  Please note:  eighth grade students are now official Holy Name School Alumni and they will not be returning to school on June 11th.  Summer vacation for eighth graders begins today June 11th.

The Holy Name School Yearbook will be distributed to all students who chose to purchase it on Thursday June 12th.

By now parents of third (3rd), fifth (5th), and seventh (7th) grade students should have received the results of the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills.  Some of the codes might be confusing so if any of the information included in the results for your child need to be clarified, please contact the school.

Two field trips are still in place for grades 5-7.  Grade seven (7) will be going to Gloucester, MA on June 12th for a whale watching trip.  Students should be at the school at 5:45 am.  Grades five (5) and six (6) will be going to Essex, CT on Friday June 13th.

And next week grades 1-7 will have an opportunity to say farewell to Father John.

The final day of school will be Wednesday June 18th.  Dismissal time is 10:30 am.

            Have a great summer!

                                                                        As always,

                                                                        David J. Nortz
