I would like to thank all our families that have been saving their empty ink cartridges for our Cartridges for Kids program. If you have empty ink cartridges at home, don't throw them away, send them to school with your child. We have been recycling them and in the process we receive money to help fund the cost of supplies for the computer center. It costs you nothing and it saves the environment. Check here for monthly updates on what our students will be completing during computer class. During the month of February the children will be working with: Pre-K will continue working at www.nickjr.com, www.sesamestreet.com , www.pbskids.org, and with the program KidPix Deluxe 4. These websites and programs will help the children learn how to use the mouse and keyboard properly. Kindergarten will continue working at www.nickjr.com, www.sesamestreet.com and www.pbskids.org. These sites have fun, age-appropriate, educational games that use television characters that most Kindergarteners are already familiar with. Grade 1 has begun to learn keyboarding using the website http://www.elearningforkids.org/Courses/Keyboarding_Skills/index.html. They will also be working with the Jumpstart Typing CD. Grade 2 will continue working on typing skill lessons to learn how to use the various keys on the keyboard. Grade 3 will begin a research project on rainforest animals. Grade 4 will be collecting data and graphing it using MS Excel. Grade 5 has started working on a project for Black History Month. They will choose a prominent person and design a Bio-Card on that person. Grade 6 is completing research for Black History Month. They have been researching Americans who made significant contributions in history. Students will create a word-processed document and report information in list or paragraph form on their selected person. They will then create an image of their selected person in Microsoft Paint in the design of a postage stamp. Grade 7 is working on a family newsletter. They will be designing a newsletter using Microsoft Word and inserting information and images found on the internet and also from the school's digital camera. Grade 8 has completed their poetry portfolios. They have now begun the process of compiling information and pictures for their yearbook. If you have any questions please contact me at school (413-736-4235) or via email at hnstech37@yahoo.com
